Step by step and in full detail,

How to access your eBay account settings in order to link it.

Step 1: Create an eBay Developer Account

Go to the eBay Developer Program website: https://developer.ebay.com/

Click Sign Up if you don’t have an account, or Sign In if you already have one.

Complete your account details such as name, email, and password, then confirm your account via email.

Step 2: Create a New Application to Obtain Client ID and Client Secret

After logging in, go to My Apps in the dashboard.

Select Create a new application.

Enter the application name, description, and the purpose for using the API.

Once the app is created, you will get the following credentials:

  • Client ID: The application identifier, used to identify your app when connecting to eBay.
  • Client Secret: The secret key that accompanies the Client ID for authentication.

Keep these values safe, as they are required for linking the account in your system.

Step 3: Set up Redirect URL

During app creation, you will be asked for a Redirect URL.

This URL is where eBay will send the user after authentication.

Usually, it’s the URL of the system you want to link to eBay, for example: https://yourcompany.com/ebay/callback

Make sure to copy it correctly.

Step 4: Obtain a Refresh Token

Go to User Tokens within your app.

Select the account you want to link to your system.

Follow the OAuth steps to grant access permissions to the app:

  • The user approves the app permissions.
  • After authentication, you receive a Refresh Token.

This token is used to renew access automatically without needing to re authenticate.

Take note of its expiration date (Refresh Token Expires At).

Step 5: Obtain Trading Refresh Token (if required)

For certain commerce-related operations (like listing products or updating inventory), the system may require a Trading Refresh Token.

It is generated in the same way as the regular Refresh Token but is specifically for access to trading APIs.

Take note of its expiration date (Trading Refresh Token Expires At).

Step 6: Obtain Developer ID

From your developer account dashboard, go to Account Details.

You will find your Dev ID.

This number is sometimes used for certain authentication processes or as the app identifier when interacting with eBay.

Step 7: Determine Trading Form and Trading To

  • Trading Form: The type of commercial operation your system will perform (e.g., selling or inventory management).
  • Trading To: The account or entity that will be used for trading, usually the email address of the linked eBay account.

Step 8: Enter the Data into Your System
